DDS Collaborative Eye Care Centers

Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services (DDS) collaborative specialty eye care clinics provide access geared to meet the needs of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who reside in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. 

East Bridgewater: Center for Adaptive Eye Care Southeastern Massachusetts
  • Providing Exceptional Eye Care to Adults and Children with Intellectual and Developmental Disability
    • Eye examinations are provided to determine a person'e eye health, to better understand how each person uses their vision, and to maximize visual function. 
    • Each appointment is scheduled for one hour, allowing time for the exam and to ensure all questions are answered. 
    • The attending Optometrist (OD) and an optometry intern will work together to provide the eye exam. 
    • Before leaving, any needed paperwork will be filled out. A full eye report will be written and mailed to each person at home. 
  • Center for Adaptive Eye Care Southeastern Massachusetts is a unique collaboration between Shriver Clinical Services and the Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services (DDS). 

​Holyoke: Holyoke Health Vision Center
  • Experienced and highly skilled optometrists collaborate with committed student interns to deliver the highest quality care possible.
    • Each appointment has a duration of 1 hour. The extended time ensures that we can gather a comprehensive set of measurements at a comfortable pace for each individual.
    • Exam rooms are easily accessible for each person’s needs.
    • We currently welcome patients aged 3 through adult.
    • We provide complete vision exams to patients who are non-verbal.
  • The Developmental Disabilities clinic at the HHC Vision Center represents a distinctive partnership involving Holyoke Health Center, New England College of Optometry (NECO), and the Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services (DDS).

Worcester: MCPHS Eye and Vision Center for Persons with Developmental Disabilities​
  • All people with a disability deserve a thorough and comprehensive eye exam to maximize vision and promote wellbeing.
    • Knowledgeable, highly skilled optometrists work together with dedicated student interns to provide the best care available.
    • All appointments are 90 minutes. Longer appointments allow us to obtain a complete set of measurements at a comfortable pace for every individual.
    • Exam rooms are easily accessible for each person's needs.
    • No age limit. We welcome infants to the elderly.
    • We provide complete vision exams to patients who are non-verbal.
    • After your visit, you will be mailed a comprehensive exam letter explaining the exam findings, including lists of recommendations and accommodations to improve everyday visual function.
  • ​Vision Center for Persons with Developmental Disabilities at the MCPHS University Eye and Vision Center is a unique collaboration between MCPHS University and Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services (DDS).
