Attending Optometrist, Dorothy Tolls, OD
Dr. Tolls is passionate about providing community-based care and dedicated to serving individuals experiencing disability, and vulnerable populations. A local optometrist with roots in Boston, Dr. Tolls grew up in Dedham, Massachusetts. She attended the College of the Holy Cross where she received her bachelor’s degree in English. After attaining a Doctor of Optometry in 1990 from the New England College of Optometry (NECO), she completed a residency at the Brockton/West Roxbury Veterans Administration (VA) Medical Center. Dr. Tolls also provides eye care in Central and Western Massachusetts.
Dr. Tolls has enjoyed a career in private optometric and ophthalmological practice; and providing community-based care, optometric clinical education, clinical diabetic retinopathy research, and telemedicine.
Dr. Tolls’ interests include hiking, gardening, floral design, volunteering in disability advocacy programs, and spending time with her family.

The clinic is open every Tuesday from 8:00am to 4:00pm to individuals served by the Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services.

You will receive a Welcome Packet in the mail with more details about the clinic and your upcoming appointment.
Please send us the following prior to the appointment:
Please bring with you to the appointment:
- Eye examinations are provided to determine a person'e eye health, to better understand how each person uses their vision, and to maximize visual function.
- Each appointment is scheduled for one hour, allowing time for the exam and to ensure all questions are answered.
- The attending Optometrist (OD) may work with an optometry intern to provide the eye exam.
- Before leaving, any needed paperwork will be filled out. A full eye report will be written and mailed to each person at home.

- Copies of your latest eye reports, current medication sheets, health records (including neuropsychology), available clinical reports (including Orientation and Mobility, Teacher of the Visually Impaired, OT, PT, Speech, etc.)
- Completed Form “Getting Ready for Your Eye Exam”- This information helps us to learn about you, and your questions and concerns.
- Copies of: Medical Insurance Card, Medical History, and Current Medications & Allergies List
- Completed Releases
Please bring with you to the appointment:
- If you are experiencing cold systems, please consider wearing a face mask to cover nose and mouth. If you need a face mask, one will be provided for you.
- All eyeglasses, sunglasses, protective eye wear, and low vision devices used These devices help us understand what has or has not been helpful to you in the past and assists if we need to recommend anything new.
- Having member(s) of your family, staff and/or caregiver attend the visit can help you to feel relaxed and comfortable, and ensures that we address everyone’s questions.
